sister because she was reared in the same household. Marriage among relatives closely connected as blood relations was outlawed. Verses 12–14 prohibit a man’s aunts by blood for marriage. Verses 15, 16 list relatives by marriage, a daughter-in-law and sister-in-law.7 Verses 17, 18 mention the man’s wife’s closest relatives—the wife’s daughter and granddaughter and her sister.
